Community cleanup next to Denver’s roadside memorial site
Join us as we reflect on a remarkable community effort that transformed the area next to Denver’s roadside memorial. Discover the heartfelt reasons behind this cleanup and the incredible impact of people coming together for a common cause.

Restoring dignity to a sacred space
The main reason for organizing this community cleanup near Denver's roadside memorial was to address the distressing state of the abandoned homeless camp and dump adjacent to the site. The sheer volume of trash in the woods was deeply upsetting, especially since the incident on September 20, 2024, when Denver was taken from us. Our primary goal was to have that area cleaned up. It was a task too large for us to undertake alone. Our family yearns to transform this highway into a beautiful place. With so many lives lost on North Point Boulevard, we felt it was crucial to demonstrate to the community and others that this area is now sacred to us, a place where our family members lost their lives. Roadside memorials now line the boulevard, a testament to those we remember.

A community united in support
We had sincerely hoped the community would rise to the occasion and lend a hand, and they truly did. The outpouring of support from individuals and local businesses was incredibly heartwarming. It showed us unequivocally that we are heard, that we are cared for, and that people are actively supporting Denver's Legacy. This event was open to everyone, and the diverse group of volunteers, from all walks of life, demonstrated the power of collective action and shared compassion.

Tireless efforts and incredible teamwork
The cleanup commenced at 5:30 p.m., and the last volunteer remained until 9:30 p.m. From the moment they arrived, everyone shared the same objective: to meticulously clean up the trash and rejuvenate the area. They worked tirelessly, with cars continually pulling in and people immediately grabbing gloves, buckets, grabbers, and shovels to begin their work. We were profoundly grateful for every single person, both young and old, who showed up ready to help.
One gentleman operated a bobcat without pause until the task was completed. Another man, alongside his group, utilized a mower and a tarp system, filling the tarp with debris and dragging load after load to the dumpsters. Witnessing everything unfold was truly overwhelming in the most positive sense. At times, one could only stand in disbelief, absorbing the immense hard work, teamwork, and dedication unfolding all around. The outpouring of love, support, hugs, compassion, and understanding was something words can barely describe; it served as a powerful reminder of our collective strength.

The enduring message of unity and change
Beyond simply cleaning up trash, our deepest desire was for everyone who participated in this cleanup to depart with a profound understanding of the power of community, compassion, and unity. We wanted people to witness firsthand that genuine change blossoms when ordinary individuals converge for a purpose far grander than themselves. Every person who showed up mattered, and every seemingly small act of help contributed significantly to the overall impact.
We hoped that people would leave knowing that one life can profoundly touch so many others. Denver’s story brought people together from all walks of life, and this cleanup powerfully demonstrated that his legacy extends beyond loss; it is about fostering positive change, extending a hand to others, and reminding everyone to care for one another and the community around them. We also aimed for participants to acquire a sense of pride and responsibility for our neighborhoods. No area should ever be neglected or deemed beyond hope. By uniting to restore this space, we showcased that our community is inherently stronger than any neglect that might surround it. We wanted people to know that this achievement was theirs.
To our community, supporters, volunteers, and local businesses,
Myself Keri Mullins and Shaun Mulluns and all of Denver's Legacy want to thank you all so much for everything you have done. We truly do not have enough words to express how thankful and overwhelmed with gratitude I am after tonight. Seeing the incredible turnout from our community to come together and help clean the abandoned homeless and dump site in honor of Denver Mullins and Denver’s Legacy brought me to tears.
The amount of hard work, dedication, and love shown tonight was something I will never forget. Watching so many people come together — businesses, families, friends, neighbors, riders, and complete strangers — reminded me that Denver’s life continues to make an impact and bring people together in powerful ways.
Seeing everyone working side by side, putting in the effort to help make our community cleaner and safer, meant more to me and Shaun than we can fully explain. The support, hugs, kind words, and stories shared with us tonight touched our hearts deeply. There were so many moments where I had to stop and take it all in because the love being shown for Denver was overwhelming in the best possible way.
